(The Good Life #.5)

Genre: New Adult Contemporary
Release Date:  January 31, 2014
 ~ Synopsis ~
This is going to be the best summer ever! Bonfires, pool parties, trips to the beach, throwing her arms in the air while riding down the open road in a convertible – she’s going to do it all.

Roxie has plans. It’s the last summer before college graduation. By this time next year she’ll be living in the “real” world; ie: paying bills, searching for a job that doesn’t require an apron, and maybe even sleeping on a bed that doesn’t turn into a couch. If there’s ever a time to be fun, irresponsible and reckless, it’s now.

But things don’t always go as planned.

Before the summer has even started, Roxie makes a discovery that breaks her heart and shatters her confidence. Her hopes of having the Best Summer Ever go straight in the trash. Forget the beach. Forget the bonfires. Forget summer altogether.

If only her childhood friend, Jake, would let her be. His contagious smile keeps popping up and dragging her to every social event in Ann Arbor. Reluctant at first, his happy-go-lucky attitude becomes an addiction. It isn’t long before Roxie starts to wonder if her longtime friend might be the perfect cure for her heartbreak. This summer might be good after all.

But All Good Things…
must come to an end.

**All Good Things is an NA prequel to the contemporary 2013 release The Good Life. The books can be read in either order, or as stand-alones.**

It was 1:00AM.
I sat down on one of the high-top stools at the bar.
“Do you have a ride home?” Jake asked.
“I’m about to call Adam. He said to call him when I was off.”
“Don’t do that,” he said. “I’ll be off by two-fifteen and I can take you home. I’ll even make you another drink.”
There were no customers in the bar. The last few baseball fans had left while Rachel and I were counting our money.
“You don’t have to bribe me with alcohol.”
He shrugged. “I will anyway.”
He set another martini in front of me before he got to work stocking the beer fridge behind the bar.
I took a sip of my drink. This would have to be the last one. I was already feeling the first. I leaned back in the bar chair, crossed my legs, pulled The Breakup Repair Kit out of my tote bag, and began to read.
It wasn’t very long before I heard a snicker. I had a pretty good idea what he was laughing at, but I played dumb.
“What’s so funny?” I asked, doe-eyed.
“Are you being serious right now?”
“I’m learning how to build a Nurture Nest,” I said seriously.
“Are you really this upset about it?” He looked confused, but concerned. “I didn’t know it was that serious.”
“I’m trying to make it not be serious.”
“I already told you what to do about that. Did you give him your number?”
“Yeah. Do you think it was too soon?”
“Too soon for what?”
“It’s only my first day on the job. If I give a guy my number every time I work, I won’t even remember who is who.”
“So what? You’re young and single. You can go out with as many guys as you want.” He closed the refrigerator door and walked back over to my end of the bar. Putting his forearms on the marble, he leaned forward and looked at me sternly. “But make sure you’re being safe.”
I scowled and rolled my eyes. “Are you kidding me right now? I am the last person who needs a lecture on safe sex.”
He started breaking down the cardboard beer cases while I took another drink of my martini.
“I have never had sex without a condom,” I told him as I popped another olive in my mouth. “I am the safe sex poster child. I am the one who passes condoms out to my friends before we go out at night. They call me Mama Rox.”
He stopped bending cardboard for a second but didn’t look over at me.
“Really,” he said. It was more a statement than a question. He looked intrigued. “Huh.” Also not a question.
“I’m not taking any chances,” I explained. “Can you believe I have four friends at school who have or have had STDs? Some of them last forever! And they are all normal-looking clean-cut girls who date normal-looking clean-cut guys. You’d never suspect it.”
“Huh,” he said again. He stacked all the flattened boxes on top of each other and then started wiping the bar with a polishing rag. “Interesting.”
“Yup. So that’s why I say if you’re not going to wrap it, go home and whack it.” Oh shit.  The alcohol was already causing loose lips. Shut up, Roxie!
“Don’t be in a jiffy,” he added. “Cover your stiffy.”
I giggled. “Before you attack her, cover your whacker.”
“You’ve gotta love the word ‘whacker,’” he said with a straight face.
“I do love the word ‘whacker,’” I admitted.
Seriously. Shut. Up.

~ About the Author ~
I'm a wife, mom, waitress, book nerd, Chapstick addict, and a really bad driver who still believes in happy endings and can't walk in high heels. Writing is what I do when I'm avoiding other things...like cleaning.
I once had big dreams of being a Hollywood screenwriter.

But then I met a boy and got distracted.

Three years later we met another boy, this one even cuter.

The three of us are now living happily ever after in the Detroit area. All Good Things is my second novel. And our house is kind of a mess :)
