Release Day Review
Playing With Fire
(Love Unbound: Mended Hearts)

by
Lexi Ryan

Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance
 Release Date: July 7, 2015
~ Synopsis ~
Dr. Phoenix Reid isn't who she seems...

Everyone knows a phoenix rises from the ashes. What they don't talk about are the people she drags with her into the fire.

I thought one hot night with Max Hallowell was harmless. I never expected it would force me to face my past or bring back the man who swore he'd never let me go. Now Max wants to help me. Wants to save me. But if I let him, he'll be destroyed. I can already smell the flames.

A woman with a secret past. A man determined to protect her. A dangerous passion that could cost them both everything.

~ Review ~
Finally a book dedicated to Max....he's been through the ringer in New Hope.  Between both Meredith and Hanna he's definitely had his share of heartache.  Max has always been seen as the nice guy.  But we all know that nice guys finish last so it's okay that his story is the last in the series.  It was nice to see him get back in the game.

Dr. Phoenix Reid or Nix as she is known to her friends.  Always the quiet one in the crowd and now we know why.  She had always been guarded, focused on work and not much of a sharer when it came to her life before New Hope.

When unspoken feelings ignite in a night of passion between Nix and Max one of them would like to forget, the other would like a repeat performance.

Nix seems to shove Max away at every given opportunity and when he finally appears to have taken and taken an interest in another, Nix decides that green is her new favorite color.

It is true New Hope fashion to run from what you want and then move mountains to get it back.  But in Nix and Max's case there are others to take into consideration aside from themselves.

When Nix's past seems to place her in danger she distances herself even more only confiding in the new arrival in town, Cade. Using his connections at the police department and the information that Nix finally shares, the attempt to make the wrongs of her past right.

I love how Max saw passed the physical and actions of Nix to see to the heart of her.  He would not allow her past to define her present and in doing so endeared himself even more to Nix.

As with all of the New Hope books we always get to play catch up with our favorite characters.  Nate Crane and William Bailey will always be my favorites.  All it takes from Lexi is one line from either of them and I fall for them all over again.

Playing with Fire is supposed to be the final installment in the New Hope Series.  This makes me both sad and happy.  Happy th have new characters from Lexi (Cade's story is coming next) and sad that I will be missing all of the amazing characters that I have fallen in love with throughout the series.

If Lexi Ryan is a new author for you, you have been missing out on some memorable stories.  Start your journey with Unbreak Me and follow the characters of New Hope.
