~ Review ~

This is not your typical Pepper Winters book is what you will hear. However, this book still has all of the elements of a Pepper Winters read sprinkled throughout. Although this story starts while the main characters are young, Ren and Della will captivate you and weave their way under your skin.

Ren trying to escape the life he was sold to finds an unexpected passenger amongst his things when he flees. I could honestly say that I felt as torn as Ren while reading as to what he should do. Let’s just say that as the story progressed I was glad he made the choice he did.

The bond that forms between Ren and Della is strong. Having kept to themselves during her formidable years not only explains her dependency on Ren but her awe of him. Ren has become that of a big brother/father figure and mentor but let us not forget that they are not blood.

I loved their story. The determination to make a life for themselves. The want of Ren to give everything to Della that he did not have. Her ability to share her newfound knowledge with Ren to give back to him. That Della recognized the sacrifices that Ren was willing to endure for her happiness and well being.

There are few secondary characters in this book but they all have a very important role. There are several firsts given by Cassie to Ren, Patricia and John are seemingly the first adults Ren and Cassie trust and John gives Ren the opportunity to work for him to provide a safe environment for Della to grow and learn.

But as time passes the lines begin to blur. Although they have always presented themselves as family feelings begin to twist. I felt bad for Della having to share “her Ren” with others. It was definitely an adjustment for her to watch him grow into a man while still a child. Her knowledge and needs not the same in that respect. They call them the seven deadly sins for a reason. Jealousy and lust can blind a person and without the proper outlet Della has brought trouble to their door more than once.

I was conflicted towards the end of the story, though I am not sure I was more than Ren and Della. I could see this story from many different angles and in some their actions would not be questioned. What I will tell you is that I will anxiously be awaiting the release of The Girl & Her Ren to see where this story ends.
