Review of All of You by Christina Lee

What an amazing read this story was.  I read it in one sitting.   The characters were engaging, fun and flirty and of course have their own sets of baggage. 

Avery is scarred by her past and the choices of her mother causing her to engage in causal hook-ups rather than a deeper connection that two people can share.  While out at a frat party she locks eyes on Bennett but he doesn't give her the time of day.  Game on!

Bennett is a super hot tattoo artist that happens to b e a virgin...yes you heard me...a virgin.
He too has come from a family that is broken.  His mother's choices in men and the inconsistency of a male presence has made Bennett the man he is with a strong conviction that his virginity is not just something to give away.

They start off as friends and as they both realize that there might be something more they start to engage in a little game called "Five Fingers".  Through this game they learn more about each other and it adds to their chemistry.

The sexual tension and flirtation that builds throughout the book had me pulling for the two of them to find a happy medium and get together.  When they do, the sparks fly.    Of course, no good story goes without a little jealousy and turmoil but it kept in line with the story and  was well placed.  There was even a little twist that I didn't see coming.

I appreciate a story that keeps me engaged and eager to turn the page to see where the story will lead.  It was refreshing to read a book that wasn't focused on the sexual relationship of the parties but the journey to finding love and experiencing it.

The author wraps up the story in this book without leaving you with a cliffhanger.  There will be a companion book releasing in February 2014 called Before You Break.  Make sure to take the time to add it to your TBR list.  I know I will.

This is the follow up novel to A Night to Forget,  the story picks up a few days after the cliffhanger that had you screaming "WHAT ?"  His girlfriend??? We catch up on the events that transpired that ended with Emma running from Brandon's apartment in only his shirt and pair of boxers.  

As we know from the first book Emma and Brandon have some secrets in their pasts that they have not yet revealed to one another. Unfortunately for Emma,  the girl at the door, Desiree has that knowledge and a history with Brandon.  Will their secrets and circumstances break their connection?

Let's just say that I was not a fan of Desiree and her whirlwind drama that she brought to the story.  There were a few twists and turns  that cause the characters pain but the reunion is worth it.  There was an introduction of another character, Damian, a "man-whore" bartender that Emma's befriends to keep her distracted.  I enjoyed his teasing banter with Emma.  Their relationship added some light in the darkness that was surrounding Emma and Brandon.   Rest assured that Jessica Wood made sure to give us the happily ever after that Brandon and Emma deserve.

All I could think was—she’s dead. She had to be. All that blood, so bright with a coppery tang, almost sweet.
Her snowy skin was extra frosty, grey-blue eyes closed to me.
Rage and terror strangled as I fell to my knees in the warm puddle of crimson. The whip in my hands was slippery with sweat, and I hurled it away in disgust. I did this. I let myself go and showed my true self. The monster inside ruined the only brightness in my life.
“Tess?” I pulled her into my arms, dragging her cold, lifeless form closer. Blood smeared over us, and her red-welted body oozed with damnation. 
“Wake up, esclave,” I growled, hoping an order would force those dove-blue eyes open. No response.
I bent, pressing my cheek against her mouth, waiting endlessly for a small puff of breath, a signal I hadn’t gone too far.
Nothing.
Fear stopped my heart, and all I wanted to do was rewind time. Rewind to a simpler place where I lived with needs and urges, but never let myself believe I could be free. Rewind to the day when Tess arrived, and I promptly sent her back to her silly boyfriend Brax. At least if I did, she would be safe and my life wouldn’t have ended.
At least then, Tess would be alive.
My demons killed her.
I killed her.
I threw my head back and howled.

“Q. Q!”

Something sharp bit my shoulder and I flinched. Rolling away, I tried to ignore the call. I deserved to stay in this endless hell. The hell I created for killing the one woman who stole my life and showed me an emotion I never dared dream for: love.  
My cheek smarted as if someone slapped me, blazing through the darkness with a bite of pain.
Eyes snapped open to a wild-eyed, blonde goddess on top of me. The debilitating terror wouldn’t leave, even though she was alive, and glaring at me with passion I grew to know so well.
“What the hell, Q. That’s the third time this week. You going to tell me what you’re dreaming about to warrant howling like a werewolf?” Tess pinned my shoulders to the mattress and I couldn’t stop muscles from tensing. I liked her on top, but didn’t like her holding me as if she was in control. It wasn’t how I worked.
“None of your business.” I rolled, grabbing her hips to pin her beneath me. I risked a small smile. With her under me, my world righted again. I ran hands over her waist, up her throat, to her lips. Her breath fluttered, coming faster and the rest of my panic receded.
She was still breathing.
I hadn’t killed her.
Yet.

Reese puts his arms out at the end of the truck. “Come on.”

“I can climb down from a truck.”
“I know that,” he replies and shakes his arms once. “But I’m just helping you. You know, being friendly.”
I raise my eyebrows, letting him grip my waist anyway. I put my hands on his shoulders, and he lifts me down, lowering me slowly to the ground. His eyes are on mine, watching me intently, and a small smile plays on his lips. I lick my bottom lip without thinking, and his eyes flicker down. I swallow against the thumping of my heart and force my breath out slowly, resisting the urge to let my body take control.
Reese’s hazel eyes are darker as they meet mine again, and I let my hands slide slowly down his chest. His fingers flex against my waist, like he’s fighting with himself whether to let me go or not.
I breathe a little faster against my will and I see his chest heave once. My fingers graze his stomach and I step back, loosening his hold on me. His hands brush my hips as he drops them from my waist, and I have to stop myself from wrapping my arms around my waist to make up for the loss of him.
“There’s nothin’ friendly about that, baby,” he says in a low voice. “Nothin’ at all.”
I let out a shaky breath. “We’re never gonna be able to be friends, are we?” I whisper sadly. “We’ll never be able to get past whatever it is between us, will we?”
He shakes his head. “I don’t wanna get past it, Kia. Not at all.”
“I can’t have everything. I can’t. It’s always gonna be all or nothing for us, Reese. There’s no in between, there never will be.”
“I’m not asking you fall back into my arms and let me sweep you off your feet,” he whispers, moving some hair from my face gently. “No matter how much I want to, I’m not asking that. I’m just askin’ you to let whatever will happen, happen. I don’t get what good it is with you fightin’ yourself every time.”
“What’s meant to be will be, right?” I shake my head a little in disbelief. “It doesn’t-”
“Work like that?” He raises his eyebrows, his thumb trailing down my cheek and neck. “How do you know if you keep fighting it?”
