~ Synopsis ~
With a former supermodel mother and a rock-and-roll legend father,
Emma Preston has the best of everything. Nothing is as perfect as it seems
though. After her parents divorce, she’s forced to live with her mother in a
private Santa Monica community. Ignoring their parental roles, her mother
becomes more focused on climbing the social ladder while her father is off on
tour.
Growing up in a trailer park with his mother, Jesse is used to people looking down on him. When his mother begs him to submit an application for a scholarship to one of Santa Monica’s top private schools, he never expects to actually get it. When he does, he is forced to attend school with a bunch of rich kids. He ignores their stares as they judge him for having tattoos and a less than impressive car. As long as he has his surfboard and the guys at the tattoo shop, he knows he can make it through.
When Jesse shows up on the first day of school, Emma can’t help but be intrigued. Her mother would never approve of Emma talking to someone so poor, but she doesn’t care because something about Jesse draws her to him.
Jesse tries to hate Emma, but he discovers that he can’t resist her. Forced to hide their relationship from Emma’s mother and everyone else around them, things start to fall apart. When Jesse’s friend, Ally, decides to interfere, things go from bad to worse.
Can they survive their first love? Or will they be left with nothing more than shattered ties?

~ Excerpt ~
I pulled myself back to the present as I followed Emma down the
aisle to sit with her friends. I had purposely stopped to talk to her outside
this morning, hoping that she would remember me. Of course, she hadn’t, but I
had been shocked at how nice she was then and again in our first period. I had
expected a stuck-up bitch, but instead, she had helped me, and she’d even been
friendly to me. I wasn’t sure if I liked that. I had always portrayed her as a
villain in my mind, and without it there to make me see reason, I couldn’t help
but notice again just how beautiful she was.
She was obviously an athlete of some kind. Her body was toned, and
she had been blessed with a figure most girls could only dream of. The
skin-tight shirt and shorty shorts she was wearing today did nothing to hide
it, and I found myself wanting to see what was underneath. I blamed my damn
teenage hormones as I tried to get a grip on myself. This would lead to
nowhere, so I needed to get my head back into the game. I was here to get good
grades and hopefully a scholarship, not stare at Emma’s ass like I was doing
right now.

This is
the first installment in the Ties Series and it had me tied to my
kindle
from the prologue and I never let go.
What an AMAZING read!!
If you
have not read a K.A. Robinson novel than you are in for a treat
and I can
guarantee it won’t be your last.
First
impressions are lasting….Little did Jesse know that 11 years later
he would
come face to face with the little girl from the sandbox. You
always
remember your firsts….in this case the first person to tell you
that you
were nothing and you would never be good enough.
Meet Emma
Preston, the only daughter of a divorced rock star and
a social
climbing model. Emma could care less
about climbing the
social
ladder. She is just a means to an end
for her mother. She has
everything
but the one thing she wants…freedom.
Jesse is
from the other side of town. He is
attending the a private
school for the elite on scholarship. It’s the last place he wants to be
but he
his plan is to just keep to himself and get through it. He works
part time
at a tattoo parlor hoping to be able to actually ink one
day.
Emma and
Jesse find that they have a connection and even though they are from opposite
sides of the “tracks”. They cannot seem
to stay away from each other.
I liked
that Emma was not jaded by her mother.
She did not judge a person because of where they lived, what they wore
or what they drove. Emma didn’t let it
stop her from experiencing life with Jesse. They definitely had chemistry and you
could feel the sexual tension as they tried to fight their feelings for one
another. There was no pretense. No putting on a show. It was just living in the moment and enjoying
each other.
But Emma
and Jesse are forced to keep their relationship a secret at least until she is
18. Her mother would never approve of her interacting with Jesse. But one of
Jesse’s closest friends, Ally isn’t much of a fan of Emma’s either. She doesn’t like that fact the Jesse is
spending all of his time with Emma. She
is a girl on a mission and Emma is in the way.
There
were definitely a couple of times in the book when I wish Emma would have stuck
up for herself more. I felt that Jesse
withstood a lot to be with Emma until he couldn’t take it anymore. But with
every love story there needs to be a little drama. You just take the ride and hope that the storm
passes. But when the storm blows you off
your feet, can you find a way to get back up or will it just blow you away?
I will
definitely be looking forward to the release of Shattered Ties #2 to see where
the story goes. Will Emma and Jesse find
their way back to one another or will too much time have passed and shattered
what they had.
