Brandon Wilson is trouble.

As leader of the largest car theft ring in Atlanta, GA, life is coming at him faster than he can handle. While the criminal world views him at the top of his game, the truth is, he’s breaking apart, piece by piece. He’s not sure how much more he can take before he completely shatters.

He’s able to manage this facade until he meets Claire Peters. As a part of a kidnapping scheme gone bad, she’s literally delivered right to his warehouse door. As his love for her grows, Brandon finds himself caught in an impossible dilemma. With his lifestyle, he knows he can’t keep Claire, and yet, he can’t risk letting her go, either. His men think he should make her disappear forever, but she’s his angel who still believes in second chances.

Can someone be so lost they’re beyond saving? And if salvation is possible, how does Claire show him the way?

Can a thief be redeemed?

“What about you? Were you always the good kid who followed directions?”
Her words stop me in my tracks because there are several answers to that question. I look into her eyes, and of course, I feel she sees right through me.
“I used to be,” I whisper. “But I’m not any more.” I break the eye contact with her and stare at my food. I remove my hands from hers and sit back in the seat. I’m no longer the same person anymore because too much shit has happened in my lifetime. Then it hits me why I’m drawn to Claire. She reminds me of a simpler time. She reminds me of love. She reminds me of the good that is in the world.
“Why aren’t you anymore?” She reaches across and takes my left hand again. I refuse to make eye contact. Her question makes me realize I’ve made a huge mistake. I should never have brought this girl to lunch, and I should never have fallen for her. Where did I think this would end up? Did I think she would sleep with me? Or did I think she would want to go out with me again after she knew what I was? I’m such an idiot, and I acted on impulse. I remove my hand from hers and I run it down my face.
“I’m sorry Claire. This was a mistake. I never should have brought you here.” I can’t look at her, but by the way she sits back in her seat, I know she’s offended.
            “What do you mean ‘mistake?’”
“I mean exactly what I said. I’m not a good guy, Claire. You shouldn’t be here with me, and I’m sorry.” I bravely look her in the eyes and I can’t tell if it’s concern or anger on her face. I have just hurt the planet’s most beautiful girl. I’m such a prick. “I’ll have them call you a cab, and I’ll pay for the fare.” I don’t listen for her response. I slip from the booth and walk to the hostess. I order the cab and walk back to the booth.
Claire is sitting with her hands crossed and she’s not making any eye contact. I run my hand down my face again.
“And there’s something else you should know. My name’s not Thomas. It’s Brandon.”
She doesn’t even look at me. I’m such an asshole.

* Review *
This is the debut novel from Leigh Clary Abdou and what a debut it was!! I devoured this book.  It had a little bit of everything, suspense, love, heartbreak, understanding, forgiveness and redemption.  I will definitely be on the lookout for more from this author.

Brandon Wilson is tall, dark and sexy.  He is a bad boy through and through.  You don’t get to be the leader of a high end car theft ring being nice.  His past is never far from his present.  It’s his reason for breathing…..until he meets Claire Peters.

Claire Peters is the drop dead beauty in charge of the internship program at a prestigious law firm.  She is the ticket to some answers that Brandon is looking for until…she is more.

Brandon is willing to go to any lengths to get what he wants.  What he wants most is his family that was ripped apart many years ago. So when someone suggests a kidnapping scheme he figures what the hell, it’s a means to an end.  But what he gets is more than he bargained for.

I felt for Brandon. His life hadn’t turned out the he way he had planned but at this point it was what he felt he deserved. I could understand his resentment towards the man who broke up his family and the need for revenge. But I was taken in with the soft heart he hid behind his bad boy exterior.  There was a lot more to Brandon than meets the eye but he doesn’t trust easy so it’s hard for others to see it.

Claire had fire and determination. She tried to hate Brandon, as he was what was keeping her from her family and her life.  But after spending some time with Brandon she began to soften towards him.  Little did she know until they were separated that she had indeed fallen for him.

The story takes several twists and turns and finds its way to a happy ending.  But the road to get there is one filled with loss, pain and sacrifice.  The price to pay for redemption.
