~ Review ~
This is the 2nd installment in the Buried Secrets Series and should be read after Covered in Coal to truly understand the story. I loved Covered in Coal and was awaiting the release of this book to answer some of the major questions that we were left with at the end of Covered in Coal. Well lets just say I may have received some answers but was left with some more. This review willl be hard to write without giving spoilers so if it appears vague I apologize.
Carly Jo and Colton take us on a roller coaster ride in this installment. Between the hurt, anger, and pride I am not sure who was worse. I kept waiting for them to get out of their own way and see the big picture! The one where they finally realize that no matter what life throws at them they are stronger together than apart.
Oh let's not forget our BFF Luke. Now I won't lie and pretend that I liked him in CIC....I didn't. He was just another roadblock between Carly Jo and Colton, and what a roadblock he was. In Lies Beneath the Surface we see more of Luke and in spite of his one night of drunken sex with Carly Jo, I actually started to like him.....ok, like him a lot! It appears that Luke may be what was missing from more than just Carly Jo's life.
Oh Savannah......although I sympathized with Savannah at times there were other times I just wanted to slap her myself. I can understand being afraid for the safety of your family but at the same time, she was feeding the beast with her compliance. I prefer strong female characters or characters that develop into stronger characters, so I guess that's why I couldn't really connect with her.
Well, and then we have Drew.....grrr! That man needs to be taught a lesson and one that will result in a severe amount of pain and some of that pain could definitely be shared with Savannah's "loving" husband Josh. The level of hatred for these to characters was off the charts, but as they say karma's a bitch!
Secrets, Lies and Truths.......yes we get a lot of them in this installment, however I was left with some questions that I feel needed answering. This installment of the series was full of lots of information, sometimes it felt like too much. I didn't feel as connected to this book as I did Covered in Coal. As in true Silla fashion we are left with lingering questions and wondering how things will turn out for some of the characters.....hence get ready to add another book to your tbr.....Mending the Seams, Buried Secrets 3.

Silla Webb is a Kentucky native, raised in the heart of the Eastern Kentucky coal fields. A coal truck driver's daughter, and a railroader's wife, the coal fields own a special place in her heart.
