My brow
pinched, because this fucking hurt. Hurt that Shea had been resisting confiding
in me because of who I was. A fucking
loose cannon. Someone prone to violence. And there it was, right beneath the
surface, fire flaming and licking and begging for release.
My voice was
tight. “Made you a promise I’d protect you, Shea. Live for you. And that’s
exactly what I’m gonna do. You and Kallie? You’re my life. My everything. And I will do anything…give up anything…to make sure
you two are together. I won’t let him win.”
She brushed
the back of her hand over the wetness on her cheeks. “He will do anything to
break us apart…to separate us. He knows we’re weaker alone. All his words about
taking us down at the same time?”
Her head shook
with bitterness and hate, something so foreign on my girl’s face, but I saw it
there—the atrocities he’d committed—the things she still kept inside.
The scars she
wore on her heart while I wore mine on my skin.
“It’s a
tactic. A ploy. He thinks he can fill us with threats. Convince our
subconscious into believing together we’re easy targets. But, no.” Her eyes
drew together as she refuted the idea, as she spilled her own belief. “He’s a
coward. A coward. Someone who allows
others to carry out his crimes and then lords it over them as if he is the one
exerting control.”
That brave
chin quivered. “I gave him my submission for so long, and I refuse to ever be
that girl again. I was her, Sebastian. I was
weak.”
Strength
filled the profession. “But I’m not weak anymore. And I’m even stronger with
you by my side.”

Sebastian and Shea are
back with more emotion and conflict than before. A.L. Jackson left you hanging from the edge
at the end of A Stone in the Sea and will take you on the ride of your life in
Drowning to Breathe. It is no secret
that her books make me FEEL…..happy, sad, heart palpitations, anger, tears and
yes love! I feared for my kindle’s life
on a few occasions during this book but am happy to say we all survived.
A.L. Jackson tells this
story with such emotion that you cannot help but get lost between the
pages. Yes, Sebastian is a force to be
reckoned with but Baz and Shea together are unstoppable. Let’s not forget the
other supporting characters that take this story to another level Ash, Austin,
Lyrik. The sense of family, though not all blood related, the determination to
right the many wrongs…..together.
As the secrets unravel
throughout the story we begin to understand more of the behaviors of some of
the characters. As the reasons behind
the actions that set the wheels in motion for all of these lives to come
crashing together unfold…hold on!
I definitely fell more
for Sebastian. His unwavering devotion to Shea, in spite of her secrets, and his
genuine love for Kallie was heart-warming but the story kept screaming to me
for more of Ash. I know that Lyrik’s
book is next but I am eager to see what makes Ash tick. What or who I didn’t like, well that’s a no
brainer….Martin. (Hence the reason for my kindle being in danger) He riled me up so much that I was anxiously awaiting
him to get exactly what he deserved.

writing go #1click your copy of A Stone in the Sea, as this is Book 2 of
Sebastian and Shea’s story and must be read in order. Looking forward to what’s next for the men
of Sunder as the Bleeding Stars novels continue.
