Aideen and Kane don’t get along… at all. Aideen is the only woman who stands up to Kane and throws his bullshit back at him without fear of hurting him. Kane is the only man who can see right through Aideen's tough exterior. He knows her deepest, and darkest secrets. They can’t stand each other, but they want each other. Badly. They hide their need behind arguments, and banter, but when Kane drops his guard for all to see, and succumbs to an illness within his body, it’s Aideen who steps up to the plate to take care of him.

An illness is the least of their worries when a devil from Kane’s past comes back to play with him. Everybody in Kane’s life is threatened, and with his body fighting against him, he doesn’t know if the luck of the Irish is enough to keep his family safe and his demons at bay.

Kane needs Aideen, and what Kane needs, Kane takes.

“Hey,” Kane murmured, “what’s that face for?”

“I don’t like how she looked at you,” I replied lowly to him.

“What way did she look at me?” he asked.

I set my jaw. “Like she was frightened.”

Kane sighed, “I get that a lot, darling. I don’t blame her though—I do look scary.”

Hearing him say that made me really mad.

“No. You. Don’t,” I hissed. “You look perfectly fuckin’ fine, and fuck anyone who thinks differently.”

Kane grabbed hold of my arm and brought us to a stop. He rounded on me and looked down at my face. “Babydoll.”

I shook my head. “I’m fine. I... I just don’t like people thinkin’ you’re somethin’ to fear. You aren’t. They don’t know you like I do.”

Kane smiled at me. “Have I ever told you how amazing you are?”

I flushed. “No, but it’d be nice to hear it often.”

“I broke a nail!” I screamed as pain shot up my finger. “No!” Kane cried. Multiple footsteps pounded down the hallway and then bodies burst into Kane’s bedroom. “What?” All his brothers hollered as they piled through the doorway. Kane pointed a trembling hand at me. “Her nail! She broke her nail!” With a perplexed look I looked at Kane then to the brothers who all gasped and flung their hands over their mouths. They all gripped onto furniture, or onto one another to stay upright. I was so confused. I had no fucking idea what was going on. None. “Your nail?” Alec screeched. Nico placed his hands on the side of his head and shook it from side to side. “Anything but your nail!” Ryder rushed over to me and grabbed the hand I was cradling and thoroughly examined it, and when he saw confirmation that my nail was gone, he whimpered. “It’s gone. Gone forever!” “No!” Kane wailed, fell back onto his bed, and flung his arms over his face. “Why did it have to her nail? Why, God? WHY?” I glared at Kane, then his brothers. The bastards were taking the piss out of me, and my broken nail. “I hate you all.” I said then turned and walked out of the room. I made it half way down the stairs before I heard the eruption of belly rumbling male laughter, and even though it pleased me greatly that they were smiling again, I hated that it was at my expense. “Bloody brothers,” I grumbled.

“Hey,” Alec murmured in my ear. “Is everything okay?”

No, not at all.

“Yeah... I'm just stressed with the move,” I replied, playing it off like it was nothing.

Alec placed his hands on my arms and gently rubbed up and down. “Are you sure that's all?”

I nodded my head.

“Keela,” Alec began. “Talk to me, what's wrong?”

Everything.

“Nothin', I'm fine,” I assured him.

His silence spoke volumes, so I decided to give him a little piece of what I was thinking.

“I've just never moved into a house with another person before, especially not another person who is my fiancé. It's sinkin' in that we're for real. I was convinced for a long time that you wantin' me was some kind of fluke. I was expectin' you to realise that you could have anyone, so why settle for me? Then you'd up and walk out.”

Alec turned me to face him and leaned his head down so he could press his forehead against mine. “I don't know what else I can do to make you realise you're it for me. I don't see anyone but you. You're my life, Keela. I wish you knew just how much I love you and how lucky I am that you picked me. You don't know how beautiful you are, and I hope you never realise it because if you do, you'll realise you can do better than my sorry ass, then you'll up and leave me.”

Yeah, right.

“Stop it,” I mumbled and tried to pull back.

“No,” Alec stated firmly and held me still. “You are beautiful. You are perfect to me. You are my life. You are never going to convince me that I am worthy of you. Kitten, I love you so much it hurts. Please realise that.”

Oh, Christ.

I was about to cry. Again.

I quickly lifted my hands to my face and covered it completely.

“I hate you!” I said then burst into tears.

I hated everything.

I had this unbelievably beautiful person both inside and out, and he wanted me by his side for life, yet here I was doubting whether or not we were moving too fast. I wanted to be with Alec for the rest of my life, I swear I did... so why the hell did everything we were doing feel like it was too fast?

Alec took my emotional state as a good sign and put his arms around me and cuddled me to him. He thought I was overwhelmed by his profession of love, and I was, but what he didn't realise was that I was close to breaking down and revealing what was really wrong with me.

“Cry baby,” he murmured to me.

I lightly chuckled and pulled back. “I'm fine, it's just the stress of movin' that has me so teary.”

Alec nodded his head and kissed my forehead. “Let's go get a start on boxing and speed this day up. What do you say?”

I forced a smile. “I say lead the way.”

I snarled, "Give me the doll. Now!" Darcy had the box against his chest with both hands on it. His fingers tapped against the box while a smug smile stretched across his face. He glanced to the snowmen gathered around my feet and teased, "You've got to watch your step, sweetheart." I blew out a frustrated breath. "I swear if you don't give me that bloody doll I'll-" "You'll what?" Darcy cut me off, his smug smile still in place on his handsome face. Damn him. "I'll shove me foot so far up your arse you'll need a surgeon to remove it." Darcy's eyes widened. "You're a foot shorter than me, and at least fifty pounds lighter. You're a tiny little thing, Neala Girl. I'm not scared of you. You can't hurt me." Wrong. He was so wrong. "I can hurt you, and I will unless you give me the doll." Darcy raised an eyebrow and snorted. "How about... no." Bastard! I curled my lip into a sadistic grin. "Okay, you asked for it." Darcy shook his head at me and moved forward so he could brush by me. "I don't have time for- What the hell?" When Darcy was close enough to do so I manoeuvred my body behind his, hooked my arms around his chest and searched for his nipples with my hands. When I found them, I grabbed them between my index fingers and thumbs and pinched. "Me nipples, let go of me nipples!" Darcy cried. I growled and tweaked his nipples a little harder. "Let go of the doll, and I'll let go of your nipples." Wow. There's a sentence I never thought I'd hear myself say.
