Just Me
by
L.A. Fiore

Release Date: October 6, 2015
~ Synopsis ~
Lark O'Bannion learned early that life isn't really like a fairy tale. Parents don't always love their children unconditionally.

Damsels are usually left to deal with their distress alone and Prince Charming rarely, if ever, comes riding to the rescue.

Happily-ever-afters are a lovely concept, but in reality are few and far between.

When Sebastian Ross rolls into her life on his Harley, with his dark beauty and inked skin, Lark is willing to admit that maybe she doesn't know as much as she thinks she does. Sebastian wants nothing more than to get out from under the control of his parents and their desire to force him into a mold.

Changing schools in his senior year isn't an act of rebellion, but his attempt to take control of his life by following his own path. One look into Lark's emerald-green eyes and control is taken out of Bastian's hands. He will discover that the only path he wants to follow is the one that leads to her.

Author's Note: This is a new edition to the previously released Just Me.

 ~ Excerpt ~
On my way to my locker, I heard my name being called in that deep voice. My knees went weak and my hands grew damp. Turning in his direction, I watched as he approached me in that easy stride of his.
“You weren't at lunch.”
My heart started to pound. He noticed. “Not today.”
He stopped just in front of me, and being that close to him was intoxicating. His chest dominated my view and the strongest urge to run my hands down that body nearly had me doing so. He reached for my hand, his smile turning a bit wicked. “We haven't officially met. I'm Bastian.”
His large hand completely enveloped mine and the heat that burned up my arm from the contact was delicious. “Lark.”
“It's nice to meet you, Lark.” I saw his mouth moving, but I didn't hear him since I was fixated on his hand still wrapped around mine.
“Are you going to tell me what you were laughing at in English?” He asked.
I heard that and responded with a resounding, “No.”
He'd taken my answer as a challenge. I saw it burning in his eyes, which he confirmed when he said, “I'll get it out of you, somehow.”
My body started to throb and suddenly I wanted the games to begin and hopefully his method to make me talk involved him putting his hands on me, everywhere.
He brushed his thumb over the knuckles of the hand he still held. “See you soon.”
I wished. He released my hand somewhat reluctantly, before he started away from me. Turning my head, I watched as he peered at me from over his shoulder and winked.
Yep, I was totally crushing on Bastian Ross.

~ Review ~
I am always excited to see what L.A. Fiore has up her sleeve and was just as excited to have an opportunity to read Just Me.  This book was like a vice on my heart.  Moments that made it swell and moments that squeezed it so hard I almost couldn’t breathe.  Sebastian and Larkspur…..beautiful people behind the pain.

This book consumed me.  I had a very hard time tearing myself away.  The connection shared between Lark and Bastian was so profound.  Sure there was the physical but they connected on so many levels it was hard not to see them as soulmates.

Just Me…... The meaning of those words took root with me throughout the story.  When you can’t find solace in your own family and are made to feel like an outcast, that is who you are left with.

After suffering the loss of her mother at a young age, Lark is forced to live with her Aunt’s family.   Often made to feel less important and unworthy of a family’s affection by her Aunt, Lark grows a thick skin and forges her family bond with her best friend Poppy’s family.   I knew that there had to be an underlying reason for the disdain shown to Lark by her own Aunt but her actions even once revealed were still inexcusable.

Bastian comes from a family where appearances are everything.  His parents seemed to the like the idea of him, so long as he played by their rules and conformed.  News flash….Bastian is a rule breaker and I think that’s what made me love him even more.
Lark and Bastian have endured many struggles on their own to become the people they are.  Together they are unstoppable.  A love like theirs cannot be torn apart by outside forces but endures and grows stronger.

I often found myself smiling at the flirty banter between Lark and Bastian.  They were just so at ease with each other and both up for the challenge of pulling one over on each other.

The story focuses on Lark and Bastian’s relationship but also includes the secondary characters in a way that they almost don’t feel secondary.  I truly enjoyed their story and unraveling the tale of their family secrets.  Everyone deserves to find their happy.
